Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask – Piano Compilation

This is a large project I did with my friend back in 2007. I had been recording video game piano covers for awhile, but I wanted to do something big, something more than just playing a single tune or two and posting the video. I decided that I was going to go all out. I wanted to play every single song from a video game’s soundtrack on piano, and have video footage of the game accompany the music. I ended up choosing a popular, yet less known about game. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

Thus began a nearly 9 month project, with the help of many friends, and other video game enthusiasts from Ninsheetmusic.net, the website I was an admin for at the time. My good friend Nathanael Shermett provided all the gameplay footage, and put together the wonderful video that you will see soon below. Along with my own efforts of making musical arrangement’s for the game’s score, I had the help of several other fans and passionate individuals help out with as well. Over 25 different members ended up contributing an arrangement for me to perform in the video. The rest were either either arranged by myself, or simply learned by ear. All that was left was for me to record my performances. After lots of takes and takes, and the gracious help of friends and fans, the video was completed in August of 2007 and released to the public.

The total video series contains over 100 songs from the game, and consists of 12 videos that combine to an almost 2 hour playtime. There was not a single song missed! A full track list can also be viewed at the video’s Youtube page description.

While the video was not perfect (see disclaimer), it was well received by the public, and served many a refreshing trip down memory lane. I was also very happy to receive internet wide recognition and credit for this video, with nearly 40 different websites featuring or showcasing this piano collection. This video series was featured on sites like Kotaku, Gamespot, IGN, Joystiq, GoNintendo, TheHyrulian, and several other gaming websites, big and small. I still occasionally find my work posted on a game forum or website that I was not aware of!

All that being said, you can view the videos in the player below, or follow the Youtube link’s to find more descriptions and track lists available for the piano collection. I hope you enjoy it!

Disclaimer

The following works were created during my teens as fan music projects and are not representative of my professional work or the audio quality I have come to expect from my work. These are simply labors of my love and my passion for game audio that I fostered growing up. The piano recordings were captured with an old Samsung Camcorder, hence the low quality audio. Please enjoy them for what they are worth. Please see the “Music” and “Sound Design” pages for examples of my professional work. Thank you.

Video Game Piano Cover Videos

Since my early teens when music and video games meshed together perfectly for me, I have recorded myself performing piano covers of video game tunes of all sorts. I have performed well over 200 different video game songs in these videos, which have been very well received by the viewers.

The audio quality is poor (see disclaimer), and my playing was not always right on, but I had a ton of fun bringing some of my favorite video game songs to life on piano. I am very fortunate to have acquired such a large fan base, and am thankful for all the compliments and support I receive on my videos. While performing these covers is in the past for me now, it was a very fond and structural part of my growth into the game audio obsessed adult I am today. I still get so happy to see game music lovers everywhere posting their covers of great songs, and hope that game music continues to grow in awareness and popularity as more and more people realize how great it is!

Sheet Music Arrangements

I have done over 100 video game sheet music arrangements for solo piano. They can all be found at my video game sheet music website here:

I have also done complete score arrangements for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Super Mario RPG (co-oped that one with a friend).

While I have not had the time to arrange recently, I am so happy to have done these arrangements for video game music enthusiasts everywhere to enjoy. I remember how excited I was when I discovered video game sheet music in my early teens, and I only hope that this niche, yet wonderful community continues to grow. It is my dream that young and passionate fans (as well as game audio veterans!) will continue to contribute for fans of game music everywhere.
